The Charter guarantees that cosmetic products are ecologically sound, organic, and composed of natural ingredients, produced in a manner which respects mankind and the environment.

Launched in 2002 in the USA by Yvon Chouinard and Craig Mathews, 1% for the Planet provides a platform for entrepreneurs to use their businesses to have a tangible positive impact on the environment, by contributing 1% of their annual sales revenues to organizations which protect the environment.
1% for the Planet currently has nearly 1,500 business members in 48 countries.
Over the past 10 years, over 100 million dollars in member contributions have been paid directly to environmental organizations.

ECOCERT was the first certifying body to develop a standard for "natural and organic cosmetics".
Published in 2003, the certification criteria were elaborated in collaboration with participants in all stages of the product chain: experts, suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, consumers, and product developers.
Today ECOCERT partners with over 1,000 companies in the certification process.
